Pallet Town is the first setting of the Pokémon Anime and video games. It is the hometown of the protagonist, Ash and his rival, Gary Oak, and also his mother, Delia Ketchum who was in the games and anime. The town's Pokémon lab is also where Professor Oak resides and studies Pokémon in his lab.

Pallet Town appears in Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow with two houses, one Red's and one Blue's, and the Laboratory. The Japanese motto is "Pallet is the color of pure white beginnings." It is the smallest town in the game.

History[]

Many people come from Pallet Town, such as Ash, Red, Blue, Leaf, Chase, Elaine, Trace and Samuel Oak. There are only two routes linking Pallet Town to other places, which means that it doesn't have much commerce.

One of the routes (South Route 21) is a water route, so they get almost nothing coming in from there; the other is Route 1, the only place where they actually travel on, which is north.

The main trading city is Viridian City, where they get their supplies, as there is no Poké Mart or Pokémon Center in the town (although in the game, the player's mom heals his/her Pokémon). This is where all Pokémon trainers start out, as it is where Professor Oak gives out the First partner Pokémon.

Due to it lacking a Pokémon Center or Poké Mart while also having a population of eight residents, Pallet Town is the smallest town in the entire Kanto region.

Areas of Interest[]

Player's house[]

Player House Yellow

The player in their house in Yellow.

This house is where one begins the journey. The house has two floors. In the player character's room (the upper floor), there is a PC, in which the player character can store and deposit items on and an SNES. When the player character first starts the game, there is a Potion, which they can withdraw. After they obtain the Pokédex and the First partner Pokémon from Professor Oak, the player character's mom can heal the player character's Pokémon.

In Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal, Red's Mom is sitting at the table in the house and when spoken to, she will tell the Johto player character her son, Red has been away for a long time and that he hasn't called so she has no idea of his whereabouts or what he's been doing. She also states they say no word is proof he's doing fine but she does worry about him. If the player character talks to her again, she'll tell them she worries about Red getting hurt or sick but he's a boy and she's proud of him doing what he wants to do.

In Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, Red's Mom will tell the Johto player character about her son and how she's worried about him. Exploring Red's bedroom in Pokemon Gold, Silver, Crystal and the remakes, the room has a study desk with a laptop computer sitting on it and if the Johto player character examines the laptop, a message will show that the items are collecting dust as if they haven't been used in a long time. There's also a single bed in the southwestern corner of the room and a Wii along with three bookshelves.

Rival's house[]

The Rival's house has only one floor. Once, Professor Oak has given you the Pokédex, Daisy (the rival's sister) will give you the Town Map and also groom one of the player character's Pokémon.

In Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal, Daisy will tell the Johto player character her kid brother is the leader of Viridian City's Pokemon Gym but that he goes out of town so often it causes problems for the Trainers. Daisy will also help the player comb a Pokemon in their team, raising its friendship.

In Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Daisy will again groom a Pokemon in the Johto player character's team which this time she'll do for free once a day between the hours of 3pm and 4pm. Once enough groomings have been enough, she'll give the player character Blue's Pokegear number, allowing them to call Blue and arrange a rematch at the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City with Blue available to fight the player character every Sunday night. The player character can also explore Bed's bedroom which in Generation IV only has a second story that mirrors the player's house, similarly to their counterparts in Hoenn and Sinnoh.

Professor Oak's lab[]

Professor Oak lives and studies Pokémon in his lab. This is where Professor Oak will give the First partner Pokémon - Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. On the occasion that Professor Oak is out of the previously listed Pokémon, he has been seen to hand out Pikachu and Eevee. This is also the location of the player's first battle, which is against their rival, BlueRBYFRLG or TracePE.

Anime[]

In the anime, Pallet Town is Ash and Gary's hometown. Professor Oak's lab is also in this town, and Ash deposits all his previous Pokémon (up to the ones he caught at Kalos) there.

When Ash Ketchum is done with his travels in a region, he and his Pikachu return to Pallet Town to start a new adventure in a new region.

In "Pokémon Journeys" Goh and Chloe at a younger age went to Pallet Town to participate in Professor Oak's Summer Camp.

In-game Message[]

  • "Player is playing the NES! . . . Okay! it's time to go!" - NES, Pokémon Green
  • "Player is playing the SNES!...Okay! It's time to go!" - SNES, Pokémon Blue
  • "Right. All boys leave home some day. It said so on TV. Prof. Oak, next door, is looking for you." - Mom, Pokémon Blue
  • "I'm raising Pokémon too! When they get strong, they can protect me!" - Female in front of house, Pokémon Blue
  • "Hi Player! Rival is out at Grandpa's lab." - Rival's Sister, Pokémon Blue
  • "Technology is incredible! You can now store and recall items and Pokémon as data via PC!" - Man in front of Prof. Oak's Research Lab., Pokémon Blue
  • "Prof. Oak is the authority on Pokémon! Many Pokémon trainers hold him in high regard!" - Female inside Prof. Oak's Research Lab., Pokémon Blue
  • "Hey! Wait! Don't go out! It's unsafe! Wild Pokémon live in tall grass! You need your own Pokémon for your protection. I know! Here, come with me!" - Prof. Oak, Pokémon Blue
  • "This Pokémon is really energetic!" - Player Choosing Pokémon, Pokémon Blue

Trivia[]

  • If the player presses A on the TV in the living room of the player character's house, the message log will say "Four boys are walking on a railroad track", which is a reference to the movie Stand By Me, based on the book by Stephen King. However, if the player character is female in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen and Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, it will instead say "A girl with pigtails is walking down a yellow brick road" which is a reference to The Wizard of Oz movie.
  • The town name comes from the word "palette", a range or selection of colors used in art. This is possibly a reference to how the majority of major settlements in Kanto are named after colors.
  • In Generation I and II, when the player character enters Professor Oak's lab, the background music changes to Oak's lab theme while in Generation IV, once the lab is entered, the music does not change as the Pallet Town theme keeps on playing in the lab with the Pokegear radio being the only available place where Professor Oak's lab theme can be heard.
